Untitled...
These explorations in collage and mixed media may be the beginning of a new series. I am enjoying the combination of pattern with painterly effects, aiming for variety of shape and scale. 16 x 16 on wood panel, 2019. -->
City in Ruins series (First we take Manhattan...)
These ten are examples of "radical collage". Each was made with four layers of collage, sanded vigorously between layers and then painted. This created a "distressed" surface, suggesting a dystopian cityscape. 2019, 10 x 10, on wood panel. -->
Shattered
I created this series in collage and mixed media, inspired by the break-up of the river ice in 2019, and the ice jams that formed on the shoreline. 16 x 16, wood panel. -->
Stripes
The imposed limitations of a striped format and a neutral palette demanded variety in texture, pattern, hue and scale. 10 x 10 on wood panel, 2019. -->
Time and Again
This series of acrylic/mixed media paintings, 24 x 24, began in 2018. It is inspired by the "deconstruction of architecture", by the layers revealed as buildings age and erode, allowing the viewer glimpses of old plaster, wallpaper, brick, stone and lath.->
